AUGUST Art Fix: Upcoming Events

If you need your art fix for the month of August (and I know I do!), here are some shows that you won't want to miss.

TONIGHT! The 1st Wednesday Art Walk in Wallingford, Wednesday, 1 August from 6-9pm. The Assistance League Thrift Shop is featuring "Shelter Art," a collection of artworks rescued from thrift stores. Blue Star Cafe is showcasing the paintings of Diana Aurigemma and the paper landscape collages of Linda White. Chocolati is featuring Corinna Sinclair's oil landscapes, Cutz Meridian has the animal portraits of Colleen Lambert, and will be featuring the aerial performance art of Jen Q. Check out new work at Fuel Coffee, Kerf Gallery, Seattle Musaic Arts and more! Don't miss musical guests Tubaluba, The Gloria Darlings, Shelita Burke, and Bucket of Honey performing at Cafe Appasionato, Wallingford Center, the Seamonster Lounge, and Keller Williams over the course of the evening. Smokey Delights will be grilling burgers and dogs all evening long!

The 1st Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square, Thursday, 2 August from 5-8pm. You can catch your humble narrator (that would be me, Braden Duncan) at Utilikilt with brand new work from 7-9pm! Stop in for conversation, libations, and get fitted for a kilt! Don't miss the dream-inspired digital paintings by Geo and Marisa of Geoglyphiks and musical guest Tim Damon & Friends at the OK Hotel! Gallery 110 is featuring work from 16 different artists!  Here's a sneak peek:

Core is featuring "Narn! A Museum of Social Detrius." Shift Studio is showcasing "Flavour" and "Wax, Paper, Scissors." Foster/White Gallery has the raw stone scupltures of Will Robinson. The 1st Friday Art Walk in Fremont, Friday, 3 August from 6-9pm. The Fremont Art Walk is shooting a promotional video this Friday, courtesy of Kevin Lyons, so come out, support the art walk, and be a star! Don't miss Mr Ewok One painting a mural at All City Paint Supply, the photography of Ana Monaco at Frame Up Studios, Jamil Shereif's hand-thrown porcelain at Fremont Jewelry Design, Katherine Johnson's photographs at Pel'Meni, and more! Also, when you mention the phrase "Make art, not war" at Pel'Meni, you will receive a bonus $1 off your dumpling!

The 2nd Thursday Art Walk in Capitol Hill, Thursday, 9 August from 5-8pm.Ghost Gallery is hosting "Whistlers," Joe Vollan's refined pop surrealism meets the mischievous graphic imagery of Carlos Aguilar! A striking combination of fantastical landscapes, mysterious creatures and gorgeous hues. Snow Cones and refreshments available! After-party at Tommy Gun featuring DJ Pavone!

Cakespy will be hosting a benefit exhibit for the victims of the Cafe Racer shooting, featuring the art of Cafe Racer regulars. Also check out Bauhaus, Cupcake Royale, the Ltd Gallery, Retrofit Home, True Love Gallery, Vermillion, and over 20 other art spaces are featuring new and exciting work this month!

"Transmission" at the Mercury, Thursday, 9 August from 9.30pm til late. Features art by Nell Rousseau and belly dancing by Sibyl Darling! You do not have to be a member for this night, and you do not need a member to sign you in. It is open to the public. No dress code. Free for members before 9.30pm. Starts at 9pm and goes til 2am. The performer will go on around 10.30 and again at 11.30, and the artist will be there all night. Come buy art, drinks, hear music and watch a sexy lady dance. "Transmission" happens the 2nd Thursday of every month.

The 2nd Thursday Art Walk in West Seattle, Thursday, 9 August from 6-9pm. Don't miss "Talking at the Same Time" by Joseph Brooks at the Twilight Artist Collective! Featuring the art of the crowd. 'In today's society we tend to have a mob mind set through the advent of social media. Sometimes it is difficult to find yourself in this web of ones and zeroes. The connectivity of the world we live in can make originality an even harder commodity to come by. So I decided not to make anything stand out. In crowds it is easy to get lost. Come get lost at Twilight Artist Collective; everyone will be Talking At The Same Time.' Also check out new work at The Heartland Cafe, Hotwire Coffee, Shoofly Pie, and more!

The 2nd Friday Art Walk in the Greenwood-Phinney neighbourhood, Friday, 10 August from 6-9pm. The August art walk will be Bherd Studios' last show as part of the Greenwood Collective. "Little Big Deal" will feature the hand crafted posable puppets of Jeremy Gregory in addition to a short stop-motion animated film. Stay tuned for more info on Bherd's shiney new gallery space in Greenwood!

Urban Light Studios and Echo Echo Gallery of the Greenwood Collective are featuring the encore opening of "Between Heaven and Hellboy: Underground, Alternative and Urban Artists Take on Comics, Superheroes and Super Villains!" Join the best and brightest in Seattle’s Underground Art Scene (nearly 100 different artists, including new work by me!) as we celebrate four-color fantasy and history. There was so much amazing in this show, we couldn't fit it all into one month!


Urban Light Studios is also featuring "Keep a Breast Snow Show!" This month's art walk will "rack" your world!  Curators, Solace and Mat Savage, have teamed up with the Keep A Breast Foundation to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support via these decked out casts.  The walls will be adorned with torso casts of the world's top female snowboarders and skiers, painted by Seattle's best artists.  You can't touch, but you can look all you want. It's gonna be a boobiefull show ;)

August 10th Art Up & Chow Down night is the same night as the City of Seattle's special Summer Streets - no traffic from 67th-87th! Tasty will be celebrating the encore opening of "Creatures Featured," plus, Tasty is producing an Art Fair in the streets! Come join us!

The 2nd Saturday Art Walk in the Central District, Saturday, 11 August from 1-5pm. Check out the Neptune Gallery Sculpture Garden and new work at Atelier Autumnthing, Hi-Spot Cafe, Pratt Fine Art Centre, Twilight Exit and more!

The 2nd Saturday Art Walk in Georgetown, Saturday 11 August from 6-9pm. See new work at American Pie, Artcore Tattoo, Belle & Whissel, Fantagraphics Bookstore, Georgetown Arts & Cultural Centre, Smarty Pants, Totally Blown Glassworks, Two Tartes Cafe and more!

The 3rd Friday Art Walk in the University District, Friday, 17 August from 6-9pm. The U District Art Walk has nearly doubled in size over the past couple months with new venues popping up every week! Come see new work at Artist & Craftsman, BC Surf & Sport, Cafe Allegro, Chaco Canyon Cafe, Gargoyles Statuary, Starbucks, Tully's and more! Don't forget to stop by Boulevard Grocery for a bag of fresh-roasted coffee hand-painted by a local Seattle artist!

With this much going on, you couldn't possibly complain that there's nothing to do in Seattle!
