Over the last 4 years, LxWxH has worked with artists and writers from Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and New York. In the interest of bridging communities, individuals, and cities; the scope of this project originated with the humble idea that art could serve the same service as community supported agriculture by engaging people intimately. This experiment has been successful beyond measure, and we could not have imagined it would end up where it is now. We couldn't have done it without any of you!! As founder Sharon Arnold sets this space down to continue supporting local and national artists in another, we hope you will celebrate the successes of LxWxH and the artists writers and collectors we've worked with not in sadness, but in revelry. ONGOING:

Mr @ SAAM
Mughal Painting @ SAAM
This month the SAAM is featuring:"Live On: Mr's Japanese Neo-Pop." The devastating disaster of the March 11, 2011 tsunami and the nuclear accident afterwards were both a shock and inspiration for Japanese Neo-Pop artist Mr. In response, he composed a massive installation made of hundreds of everyday objects from Japanese life. It’s the central work in this exhibition, presented here with a series of new paintings and other work. A reminder of the debris that blanketed the Tohoku area in the aftermath of 3.11 tsunami and earthquake, the installation embodies the post-disaster fear and frustration of the Japanese people since the catastrophic events. Showing through 5 April 2015.
"Mughal Painting: Power & Piety." Works of art produced in India under the Mughals (1526–1857), a dynasty of Turko-Mongol origin whose emperors created the most expansive, dominant, and wealthy Islamic empire in the history of the subcontinent. Showing through 21 June 2015.

Roy Lichtenstein @ SAM
"City Dwellers" @ SAM
This month the SAM is featuring:
"Pop Departures." In the 1960s, art for the first time embraced the brash world of commercial culture, advertising, and mass media—images of shiny newness, youth, and seduction. Pop art electrified artists, audiences, and critics alike. It changed our understanding of art, and the ripple effects of its seismic shift are still felt today. Pop Departures presents the bold visions of American Pop artists, including the works of icons such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, and Claes Oldenburg. Showing through 11 January 2015.
"City Dwellers: Contemporary Art from India." Bollywood movie culture, venerated politicians, religious traditions, and art historical icons all contribute to the myriad of influences in contemporary urban Indian culture. The artists in this exhibition pay tribute to this multitude even as they introduce elements of irony, introspection, and critique. Through their photography and sculpture, the artists negotiate diverse ideas and influences on contemporary Indian society—Hindu mythology, Bollywood movies, Indian and western art, and icons of everyday life in a global market economy. Many of the works are influenced as much by popular movie culture and the use of digital technology as by the conventions of religious ritual and street processions, traditional theater, and dance. Come see the colorful, contradictory, and complex India of today through the works of some of the country’s leading artists. Showing through 15 February 2015.

"The Common Sense" @ Henry
"Sanctum" @ Henry
The Henry Art Gallery is currently featuring: "The Common Sense" by Ann Hamilton. Images of animals specimens; bestiaries and children’s ABC primers; fur, feather, and gut garments are stitched together with sound, voice, printed texts, and the movement of air in a building newly opened to light. Time is also a material of the exhibition. Over the six-month duration of the common S E N S E, the project will shift with some elements depleting and others accumulating. Periodically, the galleries will be animated by reading and singing. Showing through 26 April 2015.
"Sanctum" by Juan Pampin & James Coupe. An interactive art installation, Sanctum employs surveillance systems to generate cinematic narratives with social media content that matches the demographic profile of passers-by. Sanctum seeks to investigate the narrative potential of social media while raising important and provocative questions about the conflicting imperatives emerging in our culture as we promote and embrace ever-more-intrusive electronic media, while still cherishing traditional notions of privacy. Showing through 4 November 2015.

Jessika Kenney @ Frye
Pan Gonkai @ Frye
This fall the Frye Art Museum is featuring:
"Anchor Zero" by Jessika Kenney. Opening reception Friday, 9 January at 7.30pm. Vocalist and composer Jessika Kenney creates an ephemeral site-specific video installation that will fill the galleries with voice and video projections.
"Withered Lotus Cast in Iron" by Pan Gonkai. A contemporary master of ink painting, Pan Gongkai prepares large-scale compositions without interruption, in sessions that often last more than twelve hours. He views this physically demanding process as a key performative element of his work. For his exhibition at the Frye Art Museum, Pan has created a large-scale, site-specific ink painting which will extend the entire length of the museum’s largest gallery. Show runs through 18 January 2015.
The Frye also hosts an art lecture series every Thursday night.

With this much going on, you couldn't possibly complain that there's nothing to do in Seattle!

Support your local art scene! Cheers.
