Emerald City Comicon! Friday-Sunday, 1-3 March at the Convention Centre in Downtown Seattle. The largest comic book and pop culture convention in the Northwest features celebrity guests, renowned artists, games, gear, and costumes galore! Dress up as your favourite comic character, get an autograph from Adam West, Carrie Fisher, Felicia Day, or Sir Patrick Stewart, and support some local talent as well. A few featured local artists include: Augie Pagan, Brom, Chris Sheridan, Cori Dietsch, Echo Chernik, Matthew Hinshaw, Raven Mimura, Travis Talburt, and many, many more!
ECCC Live Art Event! Friday, 1 March from 9pm-late at the Baltic Room on Capitol Hill. If you dig dancing, drinking, and watching art happen, you'll love this! Come see some of your favourite comic book artists (including David Mack, Carl Faulkner and Redd Walitzki) create amazing works of art as you watch! There will be a DJ and models to be used as live canvases. The event is officially endorsed by the Emerald City Comicon, and the art created will be donated to the ECCC auction that benefits Children's Hospital. 21+, no cover, and open to the public.
Don't miss the "Hawken Art Attack" at Vermillion! The gallery take over is Comicon weekend, 1-3 March! Yet another awesome offshoot of the Emerald City Comicon, the Hawken show will feature work from internationally known artists such as Khang Le and Camilla di'Errico, as well as work from local Seattle artists including Dear Earthling, Jeremiah Hammer, and Jeff "Weirdo" Jacobson!
"Mint Condition Issue #2" at the Ltd Gallery, opening reception Friday, 1 March from 7-11pm. The 1st Friday Art Walk in Fremont, Friday, 1 March from 6-9pm. Bellefleur Lingerie is showing the paintings of Therese de Alwese. The Evo Timesinfinity Gallery is partnering with Powder Magazine for a charity fundraiser to sell some of their most iconic covers from the past 40 years. Frame Up Studios is featuring the black and white photography of Roy Burbank. Pel'Meni Dumpling Tzar is featuring the work of Luke Forsyth. phrase, you're responding to a concept, and you're doing it with art supplies! "Telephone"

The 2nd Friday Art Walk in Belltown
doesn't officially start until April, but there are a few venues with shows
worth seeing before then! Friday, 8 March from 6-9pm. Form/Space
Atelier is featuring "The Posers: Gorilla Girls on Tour," an
exhibit of feminist-themed posters with vernissage to coincide with
International Women's Day March 8. 'In 1985, a group of women artists founded
the Guerrilla Girls. They assumed the names of dead women artists and wore
gorilla masks in public, concealing their identities and focusing on the issues
rather than their personalities. Between 1985 and 2000, close to 100 women,
working collectively and anonymously, produced posters, billboards, public
actions, books and other projects to make feminism funny and fashionable. At
the turn of the millennium, three separate and independent incorporated groups
formed to bring fake fur and feminism to new frontiers.' (from www.guerrillagirls.com). Also check

"The New Neo-Naturalists" at the CoCA, opening reception Thursday, 21 March from 5-9pm. Features new work from Northwest artists David Eisenhour, Lisa Gilley, and Sean Yearian. The Neo-Naturalist manifesto: 'We the new neo-naturalists do hereby declare: Our god the natural world is one with us as evidenced by our DNA connecting us to the first life on earth 3.5 billion years ago. The Frye Art Museum is showcasing two different exhibits this month. "Chamber Music" is a 36-artist response to the poetry of James Joyce. Curated by Scott Lawrimore, it features the work of Bonnie Biggs, Greg Lundgren, Jaq Chartier, Joey Veltkamp, Julie Alexander, Robert Campbell, Serrah Russell, Sharon Arnold, and more! Show runs through 5 May. Also featured are over 50 paintings and drawings by Nicolai Fechin, a Russian-American expressionist painter prolific at the turn of the 20th Century. Show runs through 19 May. The Frye also hosts an art lecture series every Thursday night.
The Henry Art Gallery is currently hosting three shows: "A la belle étoile (Under the Sky)," a video installation by Pipilotti Rist (through 24 March); "Now Here is Also Nowhere Part II," a series of works that pose questions about mind, body, and soul (through 5 May); and "The Dowsing," textile objects by Anna Telcs (through 5 May).
With this much going on, you couldn't possibly complain that there's nothing to do in Seattle!
