Check in with our friendly Registration crew, then head to the bar for a signature cocktail, glass of wine or other tasty beverage. Nibble on appetizers, meet the participating artists and enjoy the beats of DJ Jesse Milden while you check out the art in the Live and Silent Art Auction Art galleries.

Around 6:50pm the action will heat up during the not-so-Silent Auctions. Join the countdown 10, 9, 8, 7... and be ready with your pencil in hand to ward off any other bidders for your favorite piece...then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Winners will get to bask in the glow of taking home new works of art by our wonderful artists.

At 7:30pm, be seated for a delectable three course seated dinner by Wonderlust Catering as the Live Auction kicks into high gear with our entertaining and effervescent auctioneer, Laura Michalek, who will take us all on a thrill ride full of bidding wars and outright hilarity as the art literally flies off the walls. We will also offer some wonderful cultural, culinary, and sensual experience packages (see below)

Special Auction Items Announced: Have too much art for your walls? Check out these great experiences where you can eat, tour or become a part of the art. 50% of all of the art purchases go directly to the participating artists--you'll get to see first hand how important, and gratifying, this event is for them.

Be ready for our famous Dessert Dash: highest bidding table gets first pick. Will yours get the Sinful Chocolate Gateau or the box of Twinkies? Juniper Flowers arrangements will be available as a special take home treat. We'll also call to Raise the Paddle to help raise vital funds for CoCA, which supports our programming and artists.

At the end of it all, elated, well fed and entertained, with new friends around and fabulous art to take home, we'll kick up the beats and dance you right out of the room and on your way home.

NOVEMBER Art Fix: Upcoming Events

If you need your art fix for the month of November (and I know I do!), here are some shows that you won't want to miss!

LAST CHANCE:

"I Wonder if This Will Kill Me" by Stasia Burrington by Twilight Gallery. This art is my way of tugging at old wounds, stretching out and gnawing over old heartbreak and disappointment, using vague images of my body as the language. The materials are simple, and straightforward: one color of oil paint on bleak birch panels. I’m trying to create a portrait of longing, of a fleeting, anonymous stillness. I am remembering sadness. Showing through 8 November.

"Sci Fi Art 2015" group show at Urban Light Studios Featuring Casey Brookbush, Derek Ross, Ashley N Joncas, Eli Wolff & Alexander Williamson. Showing through 13 November.

COMING UP:

Artifact Gallery
AXIS Gallery
Davidson Galleries
Flatcolor Gallery
Greg Kucera Gallery
Linda Hodges Gallery

The Pioneer Square Art Walk ~ Thursday, 5 November from 5-9pm. Selected shows:
Artifact Gallery - "For the Love of Heat" by Tina RandolphTina Randolph is a multidisciplinary artist based in Seattle, Washington. She creates compelling environments and artwork for clients and collectors in public and private spaces and collections. Randolph's work has contributed immeasurably to the vibrant art and design movement in Seattle's Capitol Hill Neighborhood. Her architectural plaster and cement finishes and large scale murals enliven the area’s most intriguing restaurants and bars. Numerous solo shows as well as private commissions have given collectors access to mixed media painting throughout her 25 year career.
AXIS Pioneer Square - "Between the Devil & the Deep" by Yvette Endrijautzki & Javier OrtegaJavier Ortega and Yvette Endrijautzki construct a dark visual wonderland, taking surrealist twists through time warps, old puzzles, and melancholy tales. With film preview of "A Brief History of Time Travel" by Gisella Bustillos.
Davidson Galleries - "Horror Vacui" by Ben Beres“Horror Vacui” is Latin for "fear of empty space.” In artwork, it means filling the entirety of a space or surface with detail. Nature abhors a vacuum, as did the Victorians an undecorated square inch. For his third show at Davidson since 2002, Ben Beres channels this impulse in a process that exhausts his personal idée fixe while expertly mashing together Renaissance technology with a sampling of contemporary culture.
Flatcolor Gallery - "Hands of Doom," group show. Featuring: Glyn Smyth, Rotten Fantom, Alexander L. Brown, Sarah Sheil, Hal Rotter, Jas Helena, Dave Correia, Martin Ontiveros, Jamiyla Lowe, Todd Ryan White. “Hands of Doom" is a group exhibition featuring hand-made creations from the darkest corners of the art realm. Delving into blackest voids, burning light and the gray gloom in-between. From haunting wastelands and bleak visions of the future to dark rituals and rites of magic and sorcery - raise your "Hands of Doom" and join Flatcolor in this exhibition of the dreadful and morbid.
Greg Kucera Gallery - "Great American Muse" by Roger Shimomura
Linda Hodges Gallery - "Learning to Write" by Peggy Washburn. Encaustic & mixed media
Roq La Rue - Main Gallery: "Di Minores" by Alessandra Maria & "Grotesques" by Zachari Logan. Loft Gallery: "Broken Image" by Joe Rudko
Treason Gallery - "#PAPER" group show. #PAPER is an open format group exhibition with the sole unified factor of prints on paper. Each artist will present a single limited edition print run. With a line up of artists representing a variety of different mediums and subject matter, #PAPER will celebrate the complexity of each of these individuals. The show will spotlight the individuality and uniqueness of each artist while simultaneously celebrating the beauty of prints on paper. The roster is a compilation of artists from around the country including Seattle, New York City, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles. The line-up provides a variety of genres, from street art to collage work, painting and graphic design. #PAPER will act as a preview of what to expect in the year to come at Treason Gallery.

West Seattle Wine Cellars
The West Seattle Art Walk ~ Thursday12 November from 6-9pm. Selected shows:
Twilight Gallery - "MLLE X" by Hanna MyersThe MLLE X exhibition arose from the artist's recent personal struggle with coinciding mental and physical illness. Myers was inspired to create work that explored the experience of realizing how little control we as individuals possess over our biology, and how devastating that realization can be. Myers used the the story of Mademoiselle X, an anonymized woman from history who was incapable of reconciling her physical and mental selves into one being, as a filter for better understanding her own internal struggles.
West Seattle Wine Cellars - "Arborist" by Rachel Setzer. Everyone can be redeemed. With the right ingredients, some love, compassion, and time anything and anyone can be made beautiful again no matter how far down they have been destroyed. The Arborist series began as an exercise in making something pretty. Soon it began to give me peace and refuge from my other responsibilities, and I took the opportunity to hide in paintings of trees that reminded me of easier times. Then, it took on a brand new life when I combined Arborist with a newly discovered love of making my own paper by hand.

These authoritative adventures override reality, treating the fantastic and the violent as perfunctory. LolitaAgogo translates these narratives into ethereal illuminations. Marty Gordon is digging into the vaults to showcase unframed pieces of art that have never been shown before. The walls will be covered with dozens of unclaimed collage works and some of his newest monster drawings.
Georgetown Liquor Company - The Art of Eli Wolff
Krab Jab Studio - "The Enchanted Brush: An Illustrator's Take on the Fairy Tale" group show. As children, Fairy Tales introduced us to faraway lands, dastardly villains and a host of unforgettable artistic images. For many of us, these stories served as our earliest sources of inspiration and a catalyst for creative expression. The Enchanted Brush Exhibition features the original works of ten renowned artists who have been asked to interpret their favorite Fairy Tale characters in their own unique styles. I can think of no venue more suitable than the Mazza Museum, from which to debut this magical exhibition. It is my pleasure, on behalf of the artists, to invite you to join us in revisiting your favorite fairy tales, one masterpiece at a time, for an exhibition that will continue to inspire its viewers long after “Ever After.”
Praxis Arts - Angelina Tolentino. "Inspired by the flora and fauna of the oceans, as well as vintage burlesque, circus life, high fashion and costumes, I paint semi-surreal subaquatic worlds that marry all of these elements. My medium of choise is acrylic pain on wood panels."

The OryCon Art Show brings together a diverse community of artists and craftspeople whose work is united in the common experience, and expression, of the fantastic. Graphical representations of worlds which exist only in our imaginations rendered in an array of media side by side with soft-sculptured dragons and daleks. Perhaps your tastes run toward mixed media delights. We've featured works using such arcane techniques as en-caustic, and taxidermy as well as collage and appliqué. Whether it's purely decorative or more practical, the Art Show is the place for the unique and the interesting.
Aside from the amazing art, we have a range of activities which occur in the space during the convention. Check the program guide to find scheduled Sketch Book Critiques, Docent Tours, Kinetic Sculpture Races, and even Body Painting Demos.

The SAAM is currently featuring:
"Conceal/Reveal: Making Meaning in Chinese Art" (20 December 2014 - 14 February 2016). This exhibition shows that Chinese artists traditionally employ different approaches to construct layered meanings in an indirect but intriguing way: using one motif to represent another, either through their literary associations or shared pronunciations (homophones); playing with mediums such as using contemporary ceramics to imitate ancient lacquerware; or the pretext of metaphors to make social or political commentaries. This purposeful layering by the artist invites the viewer to mentally peel the layers and reveal the embedded meanings.

The SAM is currently featuring:
"Intimate Impressionism" (1 October 2015 - 10 January 2016). The collection is comprised of extraordinary paintings, considered to be the jewels of one of the finest collections of French Impressionism in the world. This exhibition features 68 intimately scaled paintings by Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters, including Edouard Manet, Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Eugène Boudin, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard, Paul Gauguin, and Vincent van Gogh, among others. These works, which are prominently presented in the East Building of the National Gallery, have long been treasured by the museum’s visitors and prized by art historians.
"Rebel Rebel" (29 August - 29 December). Potent rebuttals against female stereotypes by women artists are front and center in this installation. Starting in the 1960s in the wake of the feminist movement, women artists rebelled against clichés—notably the image of the seductive Eve and the persistent proclamation of male power and genius. Still a pressing issue today, younger artists represent women and their work in visual refutations that range from punchy to lyrical. Male critiques of traditional gender roles are also on view: a version of a gay pioneer couple is included in a set of dinner plates, and a patchwork quilt dedicated to Glacier National Park deflates expectations of the great outdoors as an arena for male machismo.

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is currently featuring:
"New Light" by Steven Maslach (10 October 2015 - 7 February 2016). Bainbridge Island Glass artist Steven Maslach is featured in a solo show with a survey of large-scale cast glass, wood and mixed media sculptures. New Light refers to his recent development of a unique means of coloring thick, clear glass. Also featured in the exhibition are examples of his older work which use more conventionally colored glass.
"A Story Place" by Nancy Thorne Chambers (10 October 2015 - 7 February 2016). A Story Place is an enchanting ceramic installation featuring thirty life-size animals and insects sitting intently in a forest, listening to a child reading a story—a story that is curiously about them.  A Story Place is a visual feast that speaks volumes about the simple but very complex idea of "relationship." Creating a sense of "story" within "visual relationships" is what inspires clay artist Nancy Thorne Chambers. Each sculpture is hand-built, fired, glazed, fired again then painted with layers of color to enhance depth to hair and fur. Every gesture, expression, clothing color and finish is carefully chosen both artistically and with relationship to their group setting. Nancy is a former family therapist from Olympia.

Wayne Bund @ Gage

"Sanctum" @ Henry
The Henry Art Gallery is currently featuring:
"Maximum Fun: A New Sincerity Event" Maximum Fun is part picnic, part aerobics class, and part community-building event featuring works by Nat Evans, Mario Lemafa, and Elizabeth Spavento. Join us at the UW's Sylvan Theater to traverse mental obstacle courses, jump over things, and shout in unison. Playing off Jesse Thorn's Manifesto for the New Sincerity, Maximum Fun seeks to probe the relationship between sincerity and irony through a series of interactive activities inspired by the legendary Evel Knievel.

The Frye Art Museum is currently featuring:
"Structure & Ornament" by Leo Saul Berk, an exhibition which comprises sculptural and video work by Seattle artist Leo Saul Berk, as well as two new site-specific works commissioned by the Museum.
"Andy Warhol: Little Red Book #178" Little Red Book #178 comprises nineteen Polaroids of friends and celebrities, many of whom were involved in the production of Warhol's film L'Amour (1973), which was filmed in Paris in September 1970. L'Amour was written and directed by Warhol and Paul Morrissey. The film starred Warhol superstars Jane Forth and Donna Jordan, French actor Max Delys, and American actor Michael Sklar; the cast also included Peter Greenlaw and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
The Frye also hosts an art lecture series every Thursday night.

With this much going on, you couldn't possibly complain that there's nothing to do in Seattle!

Support your local art scene! Cheers.
